The first 30 days after the birth of a puppy are mainly fed on breast milk. If the mother dog's breast milk is insufficient or cannot be fed due to high feeding pressure, artificial feeding must be used. Purchase professional pet formula or baby formula for the dog, and never give human milk to the dog. Generally speaking:

Before the age of 20 days: Feed once every 2 hours. After each feeding, use a cotton pad dipped in warm water to squeeze dry, and then gently press or wipe the puppy's buttocks until the puppy has completely defecated. After defecation, clean and apply a thin layer of erythromycin ointment.

Slowly feed your dog with a pet bottle, be sure to do so slowly, otherwise inhaling it into the trachea can be dangerous. Be patient, and as long as the dog is willing to drink, you can keep feeding until your stomach slightly bulges, and then stop.

After 20 days of age, the interval can be extended to 4 hours, and after 40-50 days, 4 meals per day are sufficient.

Lactation period:

Puppies born around 50 days after birth can be completely weaned. Encouraging dogs to try solid food also requires a gradual process, and owners can make their own weaned dog food according to the dog's condition for transition.

The production method of weaned dog food

  1. Add enough warm water to puppy food to soften the dry dog food

  2. Crush the dog food with a spoon, and then add some powdered milk powder for dogs or baby Rice noodles to supplement a large amount of calcium and help the dog adapt to the transition.

  3. Gently stir these foods into a paste, and the delicious weaned dog food is made.

【Growth period: Starting from the third month after birth】:

Generally speaking, the diet of a weaned dog determines its future dietary habits. After 2 months of birth, the baby teeth of the puppy are basically fully grown, and it is recommended to gradually switch to puppy food. Initially, add a small amount of puppy food to the weaned food and feed it 3-4 times a day. Then gradually increase the proportion of puppy food until all are replaced with puppy food. The frequency of feeding should gradually decrease, and after 6 months of birth, it should be reduced to 2-3 times a day.

2-5 months after birth is the period for cultivating good eating habits in dogs. If a dog is fed too much human food or canned food at this time, it will lose interest in dry dog food. If you plan to feed your beloved dog primarily with dog food, it is best not to feed it human food. If you want your dog to always eat dry dog food, don't mix it with canned dog food at this stage. Puppy dog food contains higher calories and more nutrients than adult dog food, appearing as small particles and easier to consume.

【Growth spurt period: 5-6 months】

The growth rate of young dogs is very fast, and by the time they reach 5-6 months of age, their average weight has reached 50% of that of adult dogs. Due to different breeds, the time and relative speed required to reach adult dog weight also vary. Larger dogs take longer to reach adult weight than smaller dogs. In terms of feeding frequency, it is generally recommended to feed 4 times a day after weaning. However, at 5 or 6 months, when the dog's weight reaches half of that of an annual dog, it is changed to 2-3 times a day until adulthood, and then changed to 1-2 times a day.
